Bacchus Looks Kindly on Me

May 24, 2008

About a year ago, I got an email from a person in Spain.  It was short, and the person explained that they work for a Spanish vineyard named Torres.  They were releasing a new red wine and wanted to use one of my fractals for the wine label and was I interested in selling limited rights to the image for them to use it?

     Uhhh . . . YES!

I don't know how they found my work or why they chose mine over all the amazing fractal artwork out there, but I was ecstatic.  The deal took a long time to go through, carried out almost entirely via email (thankfully, my contacts spoke English because my spanish is pretty much limited to "Donde esta el bano?").  In the meantime, the name of the wine changed, the person I was dealing with changed twice, and about 70 emails went back and forth across the Atlantic.  But the it all worked out and Torres bought limited rights to use my fractal Magma on their label.  A little while ago, I asked if they had finished a mockup of the label and this is what I received:

I think it looks great.  I wanted to buy a case of bottles, but this wine is a limited run, sold only on a line of Norwegian cruise ships.  I asked if I could just, pretty please, get a bottle or two and my wonderful contacts at Torres had two sample bottles sent my way.

I haven't tasted it yet, but I love the final design.
