The Car Arrives!
Mar 31, 2006
Here's Webby as she arrived two days ago. Photographic evidence in favor of the name Webby. She's dirty as sin, but it's nothing a shopvac and a few dozen rolls of paper towels can't fix.
A three-quarter view, showing off the cool aftermarket wheels, missing chrome trim, missing rear-view mirror, and firewood block to keep the car from rolling away. (Clickable images pop.) |
Head-on view highlighting the chrome grille and short bumper featured on the earlier-year 2002s. The grille features a dent from a collision that pushed back the custom fog light. |
Round tail lights. That's kind of a big deal. The dual exhaust tips are custom. |
Peering into the driver's side door. It's pretty shady in there. Dust everywhere, but I've cleared most of the cobwebs. The original seats look great. Notice the original malaga color peaking out aroung the doorframe. The sticker on the window behind the door states "$200 reward". |
The guages, showing off some uber-retro chrome centers. The 5-digit odometer reads about 84,500, but it has rolled over 100,000 at least once. |
View through the passenger's side door. The dashboard is horribly cracked after three years under the relentless Arizona sun. Unfortunately, it's also one of the most expensive parts to replace (on par with what I paid for the whole car). |
| Looking into the engine compartment reveals the effects of three years of dust storms. All the rubber seals that would have kept it out were removed and not replaced. Cobwebs abound. I don't see any oil leaks, but then why should I assume there's any oil in there? |

I brushed off the dust to reveal the car's badge denoting original color and VIN. "Aussenlackierung" means something like "external finish", and Malaga was the name of the car's original deep purple color. I'll get it back to that color someday, but as you can tell there's plenty other work to do first. |
